Domestic Iron & Heat Press Instructions for DTF transfers
Please scroll down to section #2 for instructions on using a heat press.
We have sold and applied tens of thousands of transfers for application via domestic iron and commercial heat press, they are both simple to do and the results will amaze you.
#1. IRONING INSTRUCTIONS:
- Turn steam off
- Turn temperature to highest setting
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- Greaseproof paper, supplied with purchase
- DTF Transfer
TIMING:
- Iron the transfer for at least 30 seconds, if the transfer is large, focus on small areas at a time. Iron each small area for at least 30 seconds whilst moving iron in circular motion, then move on to the next area, so on and so forth.
IRONING STEPS/TIPS:
- If your ironing board is not very firm you may want to iron on a harder surface, whilst being mindful that the heat from the iron could damage some surfaces
- Position transfer on the product/garment. Bear in mind that once you have started ironing you won't be able to move the transfer
- Use tape if necessary to hold the transfer in place
- Place greaseproof paper over the area of the transfer to be ironed
- Commence ironing for at least 30 seconds on each area of the transfer (see above)
- Once finished ironing allow transfer to cool
- Once cooled peel back the film very slowly, if you notice any area of the transfer lifting, put film back, apply grease proof paper and iron the area again. Allow to cool before peeling
- After fully peeling, apply grease proof paper and iron each area again for 5 seconds
DTF CARE INSTRUCTIONS
If you follow these instructions the DTF transfer should outlive the garment.
- Wash DTF Transfers at maximum 30-40 degrees
- DO NOT tumble dry or iron directly on the transfers
- When washing garments, we recommend turning inside out. This will then protect the print from friction or abrasion with other fabrics during the wash cycle
- If you must use fabric softeners or chemicals use only a small amount.
- When air-drying your garments please turn inside out, this will avoid any possible damage caused by direct sunlight
#2. PRESSING INSTRUCTIONS:
Below are our pressing instructions, please try to follow as closely as you can, whilst bearing in mind different presses and materials may require slightly different settings.
Please always do a test press before going into full production.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- Greaseproof paper or silicone paper
- DTF Transfers
SETTINGS:
- Cotton: 155c for 15 seconds
- Polyester: 135c for 12 seconds

- Lay garment or product on heat press
- Line up transfer, use tape if necessary
- Place greaseproof paper or silicone paper over transfer
- Press using settings above
- Peel once ready, apply greaseproof paper or silicone paper for 2nd 5 second press
TIP: not essential, but we recommend a 2nd, 5 second press (as above) with silicone or grease paper after peeling, it will give it a softer feel.
Always test by peeling a small area before fully peeling back.
